Day two of Mirpur Test washed out
Rain dominated the entire Test series as the play in Chittagong had also been significantly hampered due to heavy downpours during the first drawn Test.
South Africa: Dean Elgar, Stiaan van Zyl, Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Jean-Paul Duminy, Dane Vilas, Vernon Philander, Simon Harmer, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel. So far, the second Test in Mirpur has witnessed just 88 overs, courtesy of the three-day washout due to consistent rain. In that case South Africa, who are now at the top of the Test rankings on 130 points, will lose five points, while Bangladesh, who sit at No.9, will gain six points. Cricket has been good, but we have hardly played much cricket here.
“This is one of the most freakish Test series I have been involved in”. The boys were very confident, they did well – playing against the best team in the world.
Bangladesh is 246-8 in its first innings after electing to bat first, including 65 by Mushfiqur Rahim. Mahmudullah was given out leg-before on 18 off Steyn but the decision was overturned on review as a replay showed a big inside edge. “We could have gone over our skills”, said the batsman.
Bangladesh had won the preceding one-day series 2-1.
