Dayton comes to defense of ‘Dreamers’ program
Mr. Trump has said he would make the decision personally.
The announcement would come as early as Friday, according to multiple media sources.
Almost 800,000 children put aside their fears and applied for the permit under the belief that this would take them closer to gaining legal status. For some, that could be another two years.
“Behaving like a flip reality TV show host who boosts ratings by dismissing people isn’t presidential, particularly when you’re threatening the real lives of hundreds and thousands of young people”.
My student, who probably would prefer I not use her name, is a recipient of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) – the two-year reprieve from deportation that, among other things, grants undocumented youth brought to the United States as children the right to get identity papers and apply to work legally. After suggesting at various points that he would end the program, Trump, more recently, seemed to back away from the suggestion.
At a press conference in February, he said: “We are gonna deal with Daca with heart”.
An NBC News/Survey Monkey poll released this morning affirmed the popularity of the program with Americans. They are also advising them to obtain any form of official identification available to them, such as driver’s licenses or municipal ID cards, as well as Social Security numbers, which can be used for housing, banking and educational purposes, even if DACA work permits expire. Jeff Sessions, the US attorney general, has called DACA “very questionable in my opinion constitutionally”. But it would mean they’d lose their ability to work legally, and that could have significant economic consequences.
During a week when we have witnessed so many showing so much courage in Texas to help their fellow neighbors stranded by high waters, we know the moral courage that exists in this country and the resilience of Americans to help one another and to understand one’s plight and to extend a hand.
“If they follow through, the White House’s decision to end DACA is a moral stain on this country”, Gillum declared in a statement issued Thursday by his campaign. When asked whether the funds would come from his personal funds, Sanders said she did not know the legalities.
The White House’s political operation has frequently seen opportunity in protests; images of clashes between protesters and police have already appeared in 2017 political ads.
“This has been a very lengthy review and it’s certainly not over”.
The official then said, ‘Also, we want to hear from Congress’.
Indeed, the likeliest – and easiest – option, experts say, would be for Trump to phase out the program gradually.
The adviser who spoke to DailyMail.com said that was not necessarially the case. “But one thing that will never change is we will always be here to support our students with all the programs and services and the things they need to be successful”. And many members of Congress, on both sides of the aisle, have proposed humane and sensible legislative solutions.
Trump will announce that he will allow the Dreamers program to “lapse”.
