DC police ID suspect in slaying; teen says he’s innocent
Marcus King turned himself in early Friday, according to the report. Shlonsky-a recent American University graduate-was getting out of a cab to attend a friend’s birthday party when he was caught in a shootout between two groups of people and a bullet struck him in the back.
Police raided King’s home last night, just blocks from the site of the August 15 shooting, but he was not home.
Police said Thursday that 19-year-old Marcus King has been charged with second-degree murder while armed in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Matthew Shlonsky. Police say they believe the bullet was meant for someone else.
Shlonsky, who lived in Lyndhurst, graduated from Brush High School and went on to study at American University.
The shooting may have stemmed from an illegal craps game, Chief Cathy Lanier said.
If you see this suspect, call 911 for immediate police response.
Shots were fired from the southeast and southwest corners of 7th and S streets, police said.
Detectives were seeking a burgundy Chrysler 300, with a Maryland registration, which was later found. The vehicle was observed fleeing the area of the offense. At no time did News4 know King’s location.
