DDCA row: Campaign against Arun Jaitley will fail, says BJP

The resolution, moved by deputy CM Manish Sisodia under rule 90, said: “This House resolves that a Commission of Inquiry be constituted by the government to inquire into these allegations”.

Advocate Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi has in his complaint alleged that when CBI raided the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar’s Delhi Secretariat office on December 15, Kejriwal made offensive remarks on his Twitter account against Modi.

Jaitley has filed the defamation suit of Rs 10 crore against AAP leaders.

Undeterred by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s decision to slap civil defamation cases against Arvind Kejriwal and his AAP colleagues for allegedly defaming him in connection with the DDCA controversy, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday said it is neither “scared” nor “threatened”.

He said BJP member Kirti Azad had said in the house that the CBI had sent a notice to DDCA in October 2015 and had called for a SIT probe.

Azad said he was only raising an issue of corruption, over which PM Narendra Modi was taking strong action.

“No member of the family of Jaitely is involved in any capacity with the companies involved in the DDCA case”, Luthra told the court.

The Rajya Sabha’s proceedings were once again repeatedly disrupted on Tuesday – four times in the pre-lunch session – over the alleged corruption in the cricket body as Congress members raised slogans against the central government.

Two senior government officials said a DDCA committee, whose mandate was limited to investigating transactions in the 2013-2014 financial year, does not blame Jaitley but had uncovered “huge financial irregularity”. Azad has stopped just short of naming the finance minister in his allegations of corruption in the DDCA and has also challenged him publicly to sue him too.

Azad, BJP’s MP from Darbhanga in Bihar, has put the party in a hard spot by claiming that his fight was against the corruption in sports.

Azad and Sharma said the inquiry can not be free and fair if Jaitley continues as the finance minister, particularly when the Enforcement Directorate and Serious Frauds Investigation Office (SFIO) that will be involved in the probe come under his ministry. Azad had even requested Delhi Police to thoroughly investigate the matter against Jaitley.
