DDCA to file defamation case against Kejriwal, Kirti Azad
Earlier, cracking the whip, BJP had suspended its MP Kirti Azad, who has been leading a campaign against Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on alleged corruption in DDCA, charging him with indulging in anti-party activities and accusing him of “colluding” with Congress and AAP to bring it into “disrepute”. “But nobody seems to be showing active interest from the bank’s side”, said the letter dated October 27, 2011.
Further, on 5 May 2012, Mr. Jaitley wrote to the then Special Commissioner of Delhi Police Mr. Ranjit Narayan in a bid to pressurize him to immediately stop questioning of suspect DDCA officials and close the case.
The Aam Aadmi Party also renewed its demand for Jaitley’s resignation in the wake of the “fresh disclosures”. The probe committee, which was set up by DDCA to look into the matter of Syndicate Bank fraud, was headed by none other than Chauhan in 2011-12. AAP leaders Ashutosh, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Dilip Pandey repeatedly emphasised in their press conference that this is conclusive proof about Jaitley “pressurising” the Delhi Police. Twenty four of them including Jaitley did not compound. It shows the BCCI is above law. I hope it does come. All of them were then, and most still are, involved in cricket administration except Patel, who is All India Football Federation President.
Claiming that many players in the national team were in party’s touch with regard to the alleged irregularities in the DDCA, the party also dared the cricket body to file a defamation suit against it, which it had threatened to do yesterday.
DDCA acting President Chetan Chauhan claimed “false and frivolous” charges have been levelled against the association and that has forced them to take legal recourse against those spreading such disinformation.
Referring to Thakur, the three-time MP from Darbhagna said, “You can not wear two caps”.
DDCA Treasurer Ravinder Manchanda has said cases will be filed against anyone who makes baseless allegations against the cricketing body.
Kejriwal also said that it has been made a decision to allow trucks to enter Delhi after 11 p.m.so that the pollution in the national capital can be reduced.
Azad had roped in BJP leader Subramanian Swamy to draft a reply to his suspension notice and approached the party’s Margadarshak Mandal for support.
Disagreeing with Mr. Subramanium’s observations, former Delhi High Court Judge, Justice R.S. Sodhi, said the Delhi government was not empowered in the first place to order such a probe, as Delhi did not enjoy full statehood and the DDCA was a corporate entity registered under the Companies Act.
