De Blasio demands Cruz apologize to New Yorkers
The debate among seven Republican candidates in SC came as unease grows within the Republican party over Mr Trump’s front runner status.
The exchange between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump on “NY values” was one of the highlights of last night’s debate.

Ted Cruz on Friday offered an extended “apology” to those offended by his criticism of “New York values”, but rather than back down from his controversial comments, he instead slammed the Empire State’s “liberal politicians”. Bush reserved much of his fire for Trump during the debate and in his remarks Friday morning.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton challenged Bernie Sanders’s stance on gun control during a campaign event in Amers, Iowa on January 12. Trump floated the idea of putting Cruz on the ticket with him, and Cruz offered the flawless comeback: “If this all works out, I’m happy to consider naming you as V.P. So if you happen to be right [about the eligibility question], you could get the top job at the end of the day”.
He was referring to the permissive NY values celebrating public debauchery that would make the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah blush.
“I saw something that no place on earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York”, Trump said.
The second-most mentioned debate moment came when Cruz insulted Trump about his “New York values.”
Cruz drew fire when he said that Republican frontrunner embodied “New York values” during an interview with Howie Carr this week. Do we still have values and principles? “Under that theory, not only would I be disqualified, Marco Rubio would be disqualified, Bobby Jindal would be disqualified, and interestingly enough, Donald J. Trump would be disqualified because Donald’s mother was born in Scotland”. Cruz’s wife, Heidi, worked for the bank at the time, and he has said they used their own retirement accounts to pay for the campaign.
You see – in that land New Yorkers like to call fly-over country – character counts.
Cuomo said the GOP candidate’s comments “were highly offensive to New Yorkers, I think they were highly offensive to all Americans”.
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley fired the opening salvo against Mr Trump in her response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. “Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal, are pro-abortion, are pro-gay marriage, focus around money and the media”. “And I have to tell you, that was a very insulting statement that Ted made”. “Not a lot of conservatives come out of Manhattan”, Cruz said. And he pointed out that he, a lawyer who’s argued constitutional cases before the Supreme Court, would not be taking any legal advice from Trump, who has no legal training. Even if we take birtherism to the extreme (oh yes we have been there before), Cruz is grasping at straws.
