De Blasio: Ted Cruz Is ‘Blatantly Hypocritical’ About New York City
The prepared riff, coming after reporters surrounded him at a back entrance here, comes after Trump used the 9/11 attacks in NY as a response to Cruz’s criticism of the real-estate mogul’s values on the debate stage Thursday in Charleston.
“You know, I think most people know exactly what NY values are”, Cruz said.
“It wasn’t just anti-New York. I don’t”, debate moderator Maria Bartiromo responded.
In the 72 hours since that interview on Boston radio, Cruz’s invocation of “New York values” has sparked an all-out feeding frenzy. So you might not. “People in Iowa and SC understand”.
“Everybody in the world watched and everyone in the world loved NY and loved New Yorkers”, Trump said.
At Thursday night’s GOP debate, Cruz expanded on that, citing the socially liberal views associated with NY, along with its focus on money and media.
Like a New Yorker extracting their fist at the first whisper of a safe word, Donald Trump sprung into action.
“Like that’s a bad thing?” said Willie Perry, a real estate salesman and registered Republican, as he headed to work in New York City.
“New York is a great place”.
“They elected a commie as mayor”, he said, referring to de Blasio. Ted Cruz insulted the people of NY and by the way, blatantly hypocritical on his part. Bush told Trump point blank: “I hope you’ll reconsider [the Muslim ban]”.
And other notable Democratic voices representing the 8.5 million city residents joined her.
When Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz sneered at what he called Donald Trump’s “New York values” in their party’s latest debate, some New Yorkers took it personally.
The Christian commentator says by evoking the sacrifices of New York police and fire fighters during 9-11, Trump deftly countered Cruz’s attacks on New York City values.
Trump also bashed Cruz for his “wiseguy apology” to the people of NY for knocking Trump’s “New York values”.
Immediately after the debate, Trump, Cruz and Rubio were tied for the top spot with 30% odds to win the nomination until Friday, when Trump jumped to the top spot with the highest percentage he’s ever had in the Political Prediction Market.
Florida Sen. Rubio went even further, saying Clinton was “disqualified for being commander in chief”, accusing her of mishandling classified information and lying to the families of Americans killed in the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya. He apologized to the New Yorkers who are “pro-life and pro-marriage and pro-second amendment who were told by Gov. Cuomo they have no place in NY”.
