De Boer: Ajax eager to help Sanogo flourish
“I’m very happy, I didn’t think a blig club like Ajax wanted me. Now I go to visit medical”.
Sanogo joined Arsenal in 2013 but he has been constantly hampered by injuries and hasn’t been able to break into the first team.
Sanogo’s departure leaves Arsenal with just Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott as striking options.
‘I am sure it will be good for Ajax and he has an opportunity to play in the Champions League and that’s vital for his experience.
Ajax are yet to formally announce Sanogo’s arrival, but the player said on Thursday: “The manager from Amsterdam called me last week and said, ‘I want you to play for us, for Ajax.'”.
Sanogo spent the second half of the 2014-15 campaign on loan with Crystal Palace but failed to impress in 10 appearances in the league for the Eagles.
Ajax manager Frank de Boer believes Sanogo has the potential to be a “great talent” and has encouraged the 22-year-old to progress in the Eredivisie next season. I know of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nwankwo Kanu, legends who played for Ajax. [Arsene] Wenger is also still fully [aware] that he is a top-class player.
Ajax won’t have any clause to make the move permanent at the end of this loan period and this could be the ideal move for both Arsenal and Sanogo. However, he is yet to score a goal for the north London side in the Premier League.
