De Boer: Difficult to stop Cillessen joining United
Ajax manager Frank de Boer has revaled that it will be hard for Jasper Cillessen to reject a move to Manchester United if they come in with a hefty bid for the player, promising a massive wage hike on his current contract.
However with reports of Manchester United’s contingency plan begin to come out, Jasper Cillessen seems to be the No. 1 target for the Red Devils should David De Gea jump ship and move to La Liga.
It is no secret that Manchester United now require a new goalkeeper this summer.
But 26-year-old Cillessen, who has collected 23 caps since making his debut for the Netherlands in 2011, said he has heard nothing concrete about a move to Manchester.
And Cillessen, who impressed under Louis van Gaal for the Dutch national team at the 2014 World Cup, insists he has no intention to leave Ajax.
Sky Sports News headquarters understands United are themselves expecting to see De Gea depart, if not this summer then next.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal played down the absence of David de Gea from the club’s preseason opener against Club America.
“I’m very happy here [at Ajax]”, he said. I asked Memphis Depay if he had heard anything but he didn’t know anything either.
The 26-year-old, though, was quick to acknowledge it is a compliment to be linked with the 2012/13 Premier League champions, adding: “Of course, it’s a great club, Manchester United, but I can not do anything with rumours”. “It would be a great step”.
“We have to wait but the transfer period still has a long way to go”.
