Dead After Shooting Near Texas Southern University
Texas Southern University – where 9,700 students study – was on lockdown after a shooting took place at a campus housing complex at around 11.30am (local time).
Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva says the other person who was shot is hospitalized in stable condition.
The campus was on lockdown for several hours Friday and classes were suspended for the rest of the day.
This is the third shooting incident on the TSU campus in the past two months, and the second at this apartment complex.

Police captain Gregg Rector said identical suicide notes were found on Monday in the boys’ toilets on each floor of the school, in a suburb of Birmingham. On Tuesday night, a gunman shot and injured another person.
The most recent shooting happened Friday at the University Courtyard apartments.
TSU’s president said the shooting may have been the result of an argument.
It was not clear if they were students, or connected to the university.
“A bullet has no name”, she said.
HPD stated a possible suspect was detained, no details released on details of the shooter or their motive.
An overnight confrontation between two groups of students escalated into violence Friday when a freshman at Northern Arizona University opened fire on four fraternity members, killing one and wounding three, authorities said.
