Dead Autistic Teen Left on Hot Bus for 9 Hours: Family
They said only three other students rode on their son’s bus and that he was the last one to board.
When the student did not arrive home at around 4 p.m., his mother called the school and the school contacted the bus company to report him missing.
The coroner identified the victim as 19-year-old Hun-Joon Lee, AKA Paul Lee.
Cops in Whittier, Los Angeles are now looking into claims he died after being left alone all day during a heatwave. Drivers and attendants are reportedly required to do head counts at the conclusion of routes.
According to police, they responded to a 911 call at the bus yard and found drivers attempting CPR on the student.
“Nothing that we’ve learned so far would lead us to believe he had any medical conditions”, said Brad White, an officer with Whittier Police Department.
Hun Joon Lee attended Sierra Educational Center’s Transition Program.
A statement was released by the school’s district superintendent. “We’re making ourselves, our counseling services and our staff available to his family and to our students and staff who were close to him”. An autopsy is being performed to determine a cause of death.
