Dead in Indiana school bus accident
Principal Susan Jordan was killed and two kids were seriously injured in a bus crash outside Amy Beverland Elementary School in Lawrence Township Tuesday afternoon.
The bus unexpectedly jerked forward and jumped a curb at Amy Beverland Elementary School, killing Susan Jordan.
Officials say there were 25 children on the bus when it ran over a curb and hit the two students and the principal.
Lawrence Township Schools Superintendent Shawn Smith says the district “lost a great educator”.
The children have non life-threatening injuries, IFD said. She was the second principal in the history of the school, which has been open since 1989. Television footage showed anxious parents gathered outside the school. The driver is being blood tested and cooperating with a police investigation.
The school bus involved, bus No. 244, was inspected four days ago and no problems were found, according to an Indiana State Police inspection report.
A serious accident occurred at Amy Beverland Elementary around 2:45 this afternoon.
Reith says buses were lined up outside the school when the accident happened.
