Deadly pot plant bombs hit Thailand’s Hua Hin
The South East Asia correspondent for the British broadcaster said on Twitter one woman was killed and 11 people were injured in the explosions, including foreigners.
“At the second spot, around a dozen people got injured and according to the police – confirmed now – one person has died”, he said.
Edwin Wiek, who has lived in Thailand for nearly 30 years, said one bomb was near the London Bar, not far from the Hua Hin Beach. Officials said it appears the bombs were hidden in two plant pots about 150 feet apart and detonated by cellphone.
One woman has been killed and 10 people injured in a double bombing at the Thai beach resort of Hua Hin, Thai police said.
The reported fatality was a female street food vendor.
The police do not yet know of a motive or the identity of the bomber.
The 88-year-old is now hospitalised in Bangkok for a myriad of health complications.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which came on the eve of a three-day holiday weekend to mark the birthday of Thailand’s Queen Sirikit on Friday.
The explosive was planted in a popular Hindu shrine in the capital and was the deadliest assault of its kind in recent history.
Thailand s military junta, which seized power in 2014 after a decade of at times deadly political unrest, has touted increased stability in the kingdom as a major accomplishment of its rule.
Twin bombings are a regular occurrence in Thailand’s three southern provinces, which are wracked by an insurgency.
