DEADPOOL Sequel In The Works

Reports are circulating that a sequel is already in the works and the studio has greenlit the project. But the movie must be tracking well, because it looks like more Deadpool is in our future.

After resoundingly positive reviews from the critics, the writers of the first Deadpool, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, have been brought on to script a second film, insiders told The Hollywood Reporter.

No word yet on whether director Tim Miller will return, but since he was as instrumental in keeping the Deadpool movie dream alive for all these years, it’s a safe bet that the studio won’t want to break up a creative team that did the impossible.

As far as story ideas, Reynolds recently spoke about the possibility of more Deadpool movies and how much further into the character’s mythology he could dig.

“But yeah we’re in such the early stages of sequel talk it would be genuinely premature for me to say whether or not he was gonna be in it”. Gambit, starring Channing Tatum and directed by Doug Liman, was one option, but a big money weekend for Deadpool and where that may lead (sequels, X-Force feature) may give them just what they needed. X-Force is my priority.

Fox’s projections are about $10 million lower, but analysts see Marvel’s first hard-R-rated superhero movie cruising past “Kung Fu Panda 3” and the two other films opening wide this weekend, “Zoolander 2” and “How to Be Single”.
