Deal ’em up! 18 trades – Beltran, Lucroy, Bruce, Moore move
Green, a 2014 draft pick, has had success with short-season Spokane recently, and possesses a plus fastball and curveball, if little-to-no idea what he’s doing with them, yet. NY agreed to send Texas cash to offset part of Beltrans $15 million salary. NY sent Chapman to Chicago (NL); Ivan Nova to Pittsburgh; Andrew Miller to Cleveland; and Carlos Beltran to Texas in exchange for top prospects, some long-time minor leaguers, and at least two “players to be named later”.
“I think he could tell hitters the changeup is coming and they would have a tough time hitting it”, Hulett said. Beltran and Cashman discussed the possibility extensively on Sunday, Cashman said, adding that the general manager even apologized for not surrounding him with a winning product this year. “Did we lose some really good players?”
Plus, the 30-year-old Lucroy has a contract with a $5.25 million team option for 2017 and Jeffress won’t be eligible for free agency until 2020. The newcomers make the Rangers even more of a threat to earn a playoff berth and, quite possibly, a trip to the World Series. However, one of the teams on Lucroy’s no-trade clause were the Indians, and the catcher vetoed the deal to join the AL Central leading Indians.
The Dodgers still have their share of drama hanging over them in the form of Clayton Kershaw’s injury problems and Yasiel Puig’s situation, but Hill and Reddick will have a chance to give them a boost. Aside from division leaders, 13 clubs are within seven games of a wild card slots; six teams are within one of a play-in game.
The Rangers have only announced one roster move to make room for the new acquisitions: putting Prince Fielder on the 60-day DL to make room for Beltran.
The Cleveland Indians acquired a game-changing lefty, Andrew Miller, for their bullpen and an outfielder with a dependable bat, Brandon Guyer. Venezuelan shortstop Gleyber Torres was obtained from the Chicago Cubs last week in the Chapman deal.
The Texas Rangers are considered to be among the biggest trade-deadline winners on the buyers’ side of things.
The Rangers sent two top prospects to the Brewers, OF Lewis Brinson and RHP Luis Ortiz.
Dillon Tate is a 22-year-old right-handed pitcher, who came as the gem of the trade that sent Carlos Beltran to Texas. They got All-Star left-hander Cole Hamels last season after the pitcher voided a proposed trade that would have sent him from Philadelphia to Houston.
The 21-year-old Venezuelan was hitting.267 with eight homers and 53 RBIs in 100 games in his first season at Triple-A. But they almost stole all the headlines when they reached an agreement with the Brewers for Lucroy to step in for Yan Gomes, who is out with a separated shoulder.
Lucroy took to Twitter to thank the Brewers faithful, tweeting: “Thank you Brewers fans for everything!”
The Rangers have used four different starting catchers this season, with Bobby Wilson making a team-high 38 starts. Lucroy is a huge offensive upgrade from Robinson Chirinos.
The Rangers also shored up their bullpen by bringing in Jeremy Jeffress from the Brewers and previously added Dario Alvarez. Will be interesting to see if they meet in the World Series. Tate was also the fourth overall pick in the 2015 draft. Rated as the No.16 prospect by both MLB.com and Baseball America prior to 2016, Brinson has struggled with the bat at Double-A, slashing 0.237/0.280/0.431 with 11 homers and 40 RBIs in 77 games.
RHP Nick Green Seventh-round pick in 2014. Swanson, 22, posted a 6-4 mark with one save and a 3.43 ERA in 19 games with Single-A Hickory.
