Deal Or No Deal roadshow dream come true for presenter Noel Edmonds
Channel 4 are set to announce its axe this afternoon and that all remaining ones that are to be screened were filmed back in 2015.
Presented by Noel Edmonds the show was hugely popular in its early years and at one time attracted more than 4 million viewers.
At the height of its success, more than three million people were tuning in to see Noel do battle with the formidable Banker and to witness dozens of hopefuls win and lose fortunes at the flick of an opening red box.
Rumours about its future have been circulating for sometime in the TV industry and trade magazine Broadcast reported in February that the show is likely to come to an end. Each box contains a sum of money ranging from 1p to £250,000. “I have no idea about the future of Deal or No Deal”.
“A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “‘Deal Or No Deal’ doesn’t get the ratings it used to and it is not a cheap daytime show to make.
“As the studio shows ends, I’m delighted he’ll now be taking Deal or No Deal to the audience”. Noel and “Deal’ had a great run but bosses have just decided it is the right time to end the series”.
“I do not know if it will be recorded again, if it’s over I have had a sensational 10 years”.
Speaking to the Press Association, Edmonds said that he had been in discussions with hierarchy at the station and had “been working on this for the last six months and now the logistics are virtually finalised we can start recording the shows in some extraordinary locations”.
In an announcement on Friday, Channel 4 said a final series will air this autumn followed by a farewell tour in which the show will be filmed at iconic landmarks across the UK. We’re still reeling from the fact the show has been axed.
