Dean Jones deported from Islamabad airport
“Once he has a valid visa he can comeback”, the immigration official said after Jones was deported.
Former Australian Test cricketer and newly-appointed head coach of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United, Dean Jones, was deported Sunday by authorities after he landed at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad.
Nisar said it should also be ensured that if the PIA staff show any kind of laxity to check travel documents of any passenger, the FIA officials should not allow the traveller to fly overseas without complete checking of his or her travel documents.
Although Wasim and Jones couldn’t attend the ceremony but in their written message, they hoped that the team would perform brilliantly in the league.
Jones arrived from Dubai Saturday night but was refused entry because he had no valid visa for Pakistan and returned to the emirate. One document was missing. “When he came here he realized he did not have the required letter”, Hamid told Geo News, saying the incident happened due to “a communication gap” which “can happen anywhere at any time”.
The former Australian player claimed he was not deported but had to return to complete his documents.
But Jones said on Twitter that he was “not deported” and will be coming to Lahore later tonight. Jones is among a list of foreign coaches signed up by the PSL franchises for the tournament to be held in the UAE from February 4.
Five teams from Karachi, Islamabad, Quetta, Lahore and Peshawar will compete in the league, designed on the lines of the Indian Premier League and Australia’s Big Bash. In past, Dens Jones gave statements against Muslim cricketers and called South African batsman Hashim Amal, a terrorists.
And was sacked by Ten Sports as a commentator for the remark, for which he later apologised.
