Dean takes himself out of the race for chairman of DNC

When the Democratic politician first announced his candidacy for DNC chief, the advocacy group “did not rush to judgment”, but instead “took a hard look at the totality of his record on key issues on our agenda”.

GREENE: But it sounds like this is not a smear of you.

“I am not going to be a candidate for the Democratic National Committee chairmanship”, Dean said near the conclusion of his five-minute video, after talking about how the position is a full-time job.

Dean earlier this month threw his hat in the ring for the reprise of that role, and was expected to be among Ellison’s most formidable challengers.

The election is scheduled to take place during the DNC’s winter meeting, which will be held February 23-26 in Atlanta.

Aleita Huguenin is a DNC member from California, and longtime chair of the party’s western caucus. On Tuesday, he will make it official.

Rep. Keith Ellison, a leading contender to be the next chairman of the Democratic National Committee, wrote an open letter to the Anti-Defamation League over past comments he made about American policy in the Middle East that the group says are “disqualifying”.

Kaczynski reported that the investigation revealed Ellison’s “decade-long involvement in the Nation of Islam and his repeated defense of [leader Louis] Farrakhan and other radical black leaders against accusations of anti-Semitism in columns and statements to the press”. He would also be the first DNC chairman from the Granite State. Bernie Sanders’ efforts against Hillary Clinton in the primary.

Unfortunately, some political opponents continue to distort my record based on an old right-wing smear campaign – not my work in Congress, or my vision for the future of the Democratic Party. With party leaders like those behind him, it might be expected that Ellison’s election as DNC chair will be a coronation.

Buckley’s bid comes as the DNC decides how to move forward after major losses in the presidential contest and races nationwide. Unlike others in his party (including Bernie Sanders, who emphasized the intersectionality of economic and social inequality throughout his campaign but recently called on the Democratic Party to move “beyond” identity politics), Ellison is not blaming identity politics. He compared the 9/11 attack on NY and the World Trade Center to the Reichstag fire, which brought Hitler to power in Germany, suggesting that 9/11 was initiated not by Osama bin Laden and the radical Islam terrorists, but by the George W. Bush administration to ignite a holy war against Islam.

Jaime Harrison of SC campaigned to be chairman of the Democratic National Committee on Friday, selling himself as “a poor black man from South Carolina” who knows young voters, knows the grass roots far from Washington and would be free to devote himself full time to the job.

In 2014, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen survived a tough challenge from former Massachusetts Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Democratic former Rep. Carol Shea-Porter ousted Republican incumbent Frank Guinta and Democratic Rep. Annie Kuster won a third term.
