DeAndre Jordan staying the Clippers
Jordan agreed to a four-year, million contract with the Mavericks after meeting with several teams, including the New York Knicks and Clippers. Jordan can opt out after three years. Clippers assistant coach Mike Woodson then tweeted a swimming emoji, and Pierce, who was apparently unsure how to attach an emoji, instead inserted a picture of a rocket ship.
However, Jordan, as a free agent, owed the Mavs just as much as Turkoglu owed Portland and if you consider loyalty a factor, maybe even less than Brand the Clippers and Boozer the Cavs because they played for and left those teams. Sports, Jordan refused to meet with Mark Cuban.
According to reports, Jordan reached out to friend and teammate Blake Griffin on Monday to tell him he was having second thoughts about his decision to sign with the Mavericks.
“I don’t think the time is right to say anything beyond the facts that he never responded to me at all yesterday”, Cuban wrote on the Cyber Dust messaging app. “Not once”.
After sealing the deal with the Clippers, Jordan is said to leave on Thursday for a 10-day Caribbean cruise. Redick all visited Jordan’s Houston home Wednesday.
By 22:00 local time (02:00 GMT), Cuban began informing Mavericks personnel that Jordan would not be coming to Dallas. However, in the days that passed from Jordan’s agreement to their deal and today, nearly all the top free agents have been signed.
And this from Chris Paul, referencing his well-publicized banana boat ride with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Gabrielle Union earlier in the week.
The ESPN update says Paul did not know Jordan felt some animosity toward him, thiking they treated each other like “brothers” all along. Rivers reached out to various players to help him fly to Houston to convince Jordan to return to the Clippers. The Mavs, sources said, had been promised another face-to-face meeting with Jordan at some point Wednesday before he made a final decision. But Jordan had already made it clear that he had a change of heart. Bet that his lengthier response about the Jordan free-agency saga will also wind up on CyberDust for a double dose of promotion.
With Jordan’s sudden reversal, Dallas will likely scramble to find a replacement at center. Contract negotiations can begin on July 1. Cuban added the Mavericks’ other premiere free-agent signing, Wes Matthews, was still on board because he “is exactly the type of player we want in a Mavs uniform”. Information from ESPN’s Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne and ESPNDallas.com’s Tim MacMahon was used in this report.
