Death toll from Pakistan flash floods rises to 118
Six more people perished in the flood triggered by torrential rain on Friday as officials scrambled to revise the death toll from the deepening tragedy to 92, sources claimed. The disaster relief agency said at least 61 people were injured in flood-related incidents, which included 26 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and 24 in Balochistan. About 2,900 houses have collapsed or are partially damaged.
The relief and rehabilitation operation is underway with the coordinated efforts of NDMA. The government said it has provided over 32,000 tents, 2009 tones of ration, 1,500 tarpaulins and 8,467 blankets to flood victims.
472 relief camps and 150 medical camps have also been set up for the affectees.
Besides, 294 rescue boats, 1150 life jackets and 100 life rings have also been provided for the rescue of the stranded people. The Pakistani part of Kashmir and southern part of eastern Punjab province each reported 22 deaths.
The scattered rain was also reported from Zhob, Quetta divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said that more severe rains are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Northern areas due to which flood-like situation could be emerged in rivers, streams and nullahs.
