Debbie Reynolds Dead at 84
Her son, Todd Fisher, believes the death of his sister, “Star Wars” actress Carrie Fisher, was too much for his mother and he believes she suffered a stroke.
“Singing in the rain”, she captioned the snap, appearing to reference Debbie’s most famous film. “Carrie and Debbie’s relationship was a template for mine and my mother’s“, he noted.
‘Debbie Reynolds was pure class. She was loving, and bawdy, and playful- a consummate pro- old school and yet had the work ethic and investment in her craft of a new fiery up and comer.
“The character was a lot like me, Debbie, at the time”, she said.
He also added that his mum had said that she missed her daughter and wanted to be with her before she died. She was my “mom’ for years & I loved her dearly”.
To pay tribute to the Hollywood icons, Foxtel will run a special tribute beginning on New Years Eve.
Reynolds made a name for herself in a string of hit musicals in the 1950s after being discovered by MGM studio bosses at a beauty contest in southern California.
Actor Rip Torn, who worked with Reynolds in her Las Vegas stage show, said: “I was blessed to work with this remarkable woman for 45 nearly 50 years”.
Fisher’s family would need to apply through the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay a $30,000 sponsorship fee before it could be considered by the committee. She also starred in Singin’ in the Rain.
“Debbie lived her life like all of us should, to the fullest”.
In a unusual twist of fate, the complex (but enduringly loving) relationship between the two is the subject of an upcoming HBO documentary set for release next year, Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher.
Daughter Carrie Fisher was known around the world as Princess Leia in the original “Star Wars”.
