Declan Bennett axed from EastEnders
A spokesman said: “We can confirm that Declan Bennett will be leaving EastEnders“.
The 34-year-old made only his debut in the soap last year – but now it’s been claimed that producers have axed his character.
His final scenes look set to take place at a train station and the actor was seen filming alongside Rita Simons, who plays Roxy Mitchel leading to speculation that Roxy could be leaving alongside her sister’s husband.
Declan himself has addressed his exit, tweeting on Thursday night (23 July): “Sayonara EastEnders“. Much love to all of u for the well wishes.
Currently, Bennett has been shooting his final scenes alongside Roxy and his son Matthew.
Are you sad to see him go?
Bennett has been playing Charlie since early 2014, when the character was introduced as the grandson that Dot Branning never knew existed.
The pair grew close whilst Ronnie lay unresponsive in a coma following a huge auto accident at the start of 2015.
Former police detective Emma Summerhayes was killed instantly, just after she had cracked the case of Lucy Beale’s killer, taking her discovery to the grave with her. While they have both since put their forbidden feelings aside for Ronnie’s sake, the tension between them still seems unresolved.
And shortly after Charlie first arrived on Albert Square it was discovered he had been impersonating a policeman to fake the death of his dad “Nasty” Nick, who eventually died from drugs after his mum Dot left him without calling an ambulance.
