Deeney: “Win over WEST HAM was massive”
West Ham United have launched an investigation and vowed to hand out lifetime bans after a number of supporters clashed with stewards and opposition fans during Saturday’s meeting with London rivals Watford.
West Ham have won just one of their opening four Premier League matches, and now sit in 17th place in the standings.
Watford came from two goals down to beat West Ham 4-2 in the English Premier League on Saturday for its first win of the season under new manager Walter Mazzarri.
Odion Ighalo, Troy Deeney, Etienne Capoue and Jose Holebas were on target as the home defence fell apart and, but for a little more accuracy in the final 10 minutes, Watford could have won by more.
“If we can go in 2-0 up at half-time it is a different game, but the mistakes have cost us in the end”.
The capitulation by Slaven Bilic’s team sparked trouble among sections of the West Ham support.
“While these isolated incidents were quickly brought under control, this behaviour has no place in football and West Ham United will work tirelessly to eradicate such incidents”.
“It had already happened twice in the first ten minutes, when we had five chances and they had two, and it was too easy for them to get in positions out wide in space”.
“They, like all at West Ham United, do not want their reputation or the club’s to be tarnished by the minority”.
The club says those identified as being involved in the crowd trouble will be given lifetime bans, as it has a “zero tolerance” policy to disruptive behaviour.
“After the second goal we woke up and in the second half we played a great game”.
