Deep Purple, NWA, Chicago enter Hall of Fame

Chicago, Steve Miller and Cheap Trick will also be counted among the Rock Hall’s Class of 2016, rounding out a list that leans in the direction of 1970s classic rock.

As Nielsen went on to point out, the band has performed with two drummers before, and could very well do so again.

N.W.A. (minus the late Easy-E, wearing shades) will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next April. The larger-than-life West Coast hip-hop group was likely boosted in their bid by this year’s blockbuster Straight Outta Compton, the hit biopic which told the story of the group and its music.

Borchetta says of Cheap Trick, “As a band, they’ve never stopped rock’n the free world and they play every night with as much conviction as their first power-pop-punk club shows from the mid ’70’s”. After the nominees were selected, fans could cast votes online to help sway the vote.

According to Financial Company Voices, four of the five musical acts that were nominated and will join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are still touring. It’s an album that rightly sits atop the 2015 end-of-year lists for Spin, Rolling Stone, Vice and Billboard, and it’s one which Dr. Dre produced.

Cheap Trick moved swiftly to capitalize on the honor, announcing Thursday the band had signed a new deal with Taylor Swift’s label, Big Machine Records.

Though Chicago’s popularity is unquestionable, co-founder Robert Lamm thought that the time had passed for the band to get an induction, but was pleasantly surprised they finally were getting the honor. The other inductees are Deep Purple and Steve Miller. Deep Purple, best known for their sludgy brand of rock “n” roll and helping to bring in an era of metal, have classics such as “Smoke on the Water”, “Hush” and “Highway Star” in their lineup.

The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, NY, on April 8. “I think he is, too, so we should know the material”. “It wasn’t my decision, and I didn’t have any input into any of it”. “We got some of the most creative, talented people in N.W.A that’s ever been compiled in one group”.
