Defense keeps Panthers ideal, Romo injured

Speaking on 105.3 FM Friday morning, owner Jerry Jones said that Romo suffered a hairline fracture in his left clavicle against the Panthers on Thursday.

ESPN reported Romo suffered a small crack in the healed portion of the fracture that he suffered against Philadelphia on September 20.

“The hard part is playing when you’re trying not to get hurt, which is silly”, Romo said after he threw three interceptions and Carolina returned two of them for touchdowns before the injury.

They came after safety Kurt Coleman had picked off Romo’s second pass of the game and took it back 36 yards for the first points of the contest.

“I’m just very disappointed in not giving our team a chance to win today”, said Romo, who was 11 of 21 with 106 yards and a 27.2 passer rating.

The Cowboys are now 3-8 on the season, and backup quarterback Matt Cassel will look to step up down the stretch.

Now sitting at 3-8 with no Romo to save them, there is a strong possibility Dallas with finish with their first top 5 draft choice dating back to 2003. Even if Newton doesn’t explode offensively for a bunch of yards, Carolina’s defense has proven to be more than capable of winning a game.

Romo’s latest injury has fueled speculation that the Cowboys had rushed him back to the field, but head coach Jason Garrett was quick to dispel that notion.

The quarterback missed seven games earlier this season with a broken left clavicle.
