Defense must improve tackling to stop Lynch
Matt Forte and the running game set the tone, while Cutler was in more of a game manager role. More than anything, they looked like a team with a plan. Whether he said that to give the defense a little leeway or if he was honest is unknown, but fans are already anxious about their defense.
Jones got a look from Rodgers on the field against the Bears that would have been imperceptible to a casual observer, but he knew exactly what it meant. We like what Clay gives us that way because he can do both.
COACHING: B-minus – The concept of shortening the clock for Aaron Rodgers by controlling the ball almost worked. Luckily for the Packers, that wasn’t the case. However, the play-calling on the Packers’ goal-line stand was atrocious, with four straight passes. Cutler ran the offense as dictated without glaring mistakes until crunch time. One way of getting off the field earlier is doing a better job at stopping the run.
Matt Forte got off to a good start by running for 141 yards and a touchdown. For a team that has Super Bowl aspirations, that is an unacceptable number. It’s the first regular season game. At least it wasn’t based on the numbers. That is a dramatic turnaround from previous year when the Packers bombed the Bears 55-14.
Some of it could be Sam Barrington coming out of the game due to an ankle injury. If you can’t find ways to disrupt Rodgers in the pocket or move him off of his line you really have no chance of winning.
Still, the Packers are not using any of these reasons as excuses. Cutler played better (18 of 36 for 225 yards) for couldn’t make the big plays again when it counted the most. It was hard to scheme against the Bears new offense. Chicago ranked 30th in the National Football League on defense the last two years, but limited Green Bay to 322 yards on Sunday. The Packers were able to adjust to the unknown looks in the first half to improve in the second half.
The Packers showed up, played a consistently strong game from kickoff to conclusion by scoring in every quarter, holding the Bears scoreless in the fourth quarter until 34 seconds remained, and most importantly not turning over the ball (penalties are another matter, 10 for 74 yards). Raji and Mike Daniels. They may need to work for more than one entire practice on passing inside the 5-yard line after their struggles in the red zone. The blocking on most plays that involved pulling was very effective and tight ends sealed the edge. Perhaps he just didn’t fit into the offensive system that they ran, but whatever the case is the Packers were happy to bring him back on board following the loss of star wide receiver Jordy Nelson for the season due to a torn ACL.
They host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a rematch of the NFC Championship that Green Bay threw away in the final minutes of regulation and lost in overtime eight months ago. The one pick he threw would be the turning point in the game.
RUSH DEFENSE: D – Green Bay’s run-stopping miseries for much of last season reared their ugly head early and often in this season’s debut. It is just one game against a new offensive regime. “He’s a tough guy, he’s a great player and a great teammate”.
The Bears were considered big underdogs going into the contest, which may have surprised some viewers as the game was closely contested throughout. “But from the standpoint of the fight that we had and the resilience that we had at the end of the game, it speaks volumes of the culture and the demeanor that’s being instilled here in our players by our coaching staff”.
