Defense, Peterson lead Vikings to 20-10 win over Falcons
It didn’t hurt. The Vikings’ defense kept Atlanta out of the end zone until Ryan’s 1-yard touchdown pass to Nick Williams with 1:28 remaining. Both teams have went on five game winning streaks this season with the Falcons starting off 5-0 and the Vikings winning five before last week’s game against the Packers. “I feel like there have been a lot of times this year we’ve had some self-inflicted wounds”. Another win will do great things for their postseason chances. The Vikings host Seattle next week, followed by a game at high-powered Arizona. The defense forced two turnovers and allowed only three points in the first half.
With running back Devonta Freeman sidelined by a concussion, Atlanta was held to 329 yards, its second-lowest output of the season, and even that was a bit misleading. We’re going to play better. Thanks to everybody that got their coverage of this weekend’s game right here at The Daily Norseman!
Adrian Peterson ran for 158 yards for the Vikings (8-3). He passed O.J. Simpson (11,236), Corey Dillon (11,241) and John Riggins (11,352).
“I was a little late on the throw and it was the wrong place to go with the ball”, Ryan said. “I thought Adrian did a nice job and our receivers did a nice job blocking on the perimeter. They were all bunched up and [Peterson] took it outside and did all the rest”. As for the total, it now sits at 45.5 points after opening at 46.
Barr is one of the brightest young defensive players in the league. Stefon Diggs caught four balls for 31 yards to lead the unit, but Mike Wallace drew a key pass interference penalty on third down in the red zone for arguably the biggest play by this group on Sunday. Against Indianapolis, he was totally fooled out of his own end zone, throwing a pass that was intercepted and returned 6 yards for a touchdown. They’re managing to get some pressure on Teddy Bridgewater, which helps. The team’s 5-0 start was more the result of a series of fortunate breaks and good scheduling, and its subsequent 1-5 run is nothing more than a regression to the mean.
The first half was all about the combination of quarterback Tyron Taylor and wide receiver Sammy Watkins for the Bills (5-6). After seeing Green Bay lose to Chicago on Thanksgiving, the Vikings can move back into first place in the NFC North. That is exactly what they will do this week and will send Atlanta to another loss. The Vikings’ Exum made up for his poor tackling effort by jumping on the fumble. He generally doesn’t get the credit he deserves because usually he’s blocking. He leads the National Football League with 80 receptions for 1,189 yards.
Peterson is working against time. ATL, T.Coleman 18-110, Te.
“You want to make plays”.
The offensive line, in general, had a better game this week, as Bridgewater was only sacked twice and hit three times. He knows he messed up. “But I’ve got to get started next week”.
Minnesota still controls its fate in the NFC Central.
Tom Johnson promptly was flagged for illegal hands to the face, setting up the Falcons with first-and-goal from the 10.
