Deleted Snapchat suggests Miss Universe teleprompter gave Steve Harvey the wrong victor
Harvey continued apologizing on Monday for announcing Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the victor, and then admitting on live TV moments later that Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was actually supposed to take the Miss Universe crown and sash.
“I can’t even imagine how hard it must have been for Miss Colombia”.
Immediately after saying her name, the audience cheered and Gutierrez-Arévalo was given a crown and large bouquet.
Marketing entrepreneur Jonah Engler declared Miss Colombia is the most famous runner-up ever.
Harvey says no one feels worse than he does about his mistake awarding Colombia the crown before Miss Universe.
Twenty-four-year-old Miss Peru Laura Spoya looked strikingly similar to Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio in her bare-faced portrait while Miss Ghana Hilda Frimpong, 26, looked more youthful without all the contouring and cherry red lips.
After a flub that turned the crowning of Miss Universe into a fiasco, sheepish host Steve Harvey apologized profusely. “OK folks… I have to apologize”, he told a confused crowd in Las Vegas. But the contestants at the center of the gaffe – Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez and the actual victor, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach – have responded with grace. However, he initially misspelled the home countries of both contestants before also fixing that.
Harvey says he hasn’t spoken with Miss Colombia.
“I really couldn’t believe it, I was so upset”, Riek said, adding that she “was really happy for Colombia – she really deserved it”. “Thank you for voting for me”.
Later, Wurtzbach told reporters that she wished Arevalo well.
“I think she did a really good job with her reaction and with acting like a good title holder as Miss Columbia”, Miss Los Angeles County Rachael Maurer said.
For those that weren’t watching Miss Universe on Sunday night – first of all, shame on you because the Donald Trump critiques were on point! She bathed in applause for almost two minutes before Harvey slowly made his way back onto the stage.
