Delhi court says Kejriwal’s ‘thulla’ remark derogatory
Advocate L N Rao, who appeared for complainant constable Harvinder, argued before the court that due to Arvind Kejriwal’s “thulla” remark, the entire Delhi police was demoralized.
However, he clarified that he used the word for “corrupt” officials and was apologizing only to honest officers.
“If a word like “thulla” is used by an eminent personality like the chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to refer to personnel of Delhi Police, then the general public would too have no respect or regard for police personnel who dedicate their entire lives to maintain law and order in Delhi”, constable Ajay Kumar Taneja said.
BJP claimed that in the advertisement Kejriwal says that the people of Delhi would have to come forward whenever someone is in need, but he remained silent when a farmer from Rajasthan died in front of him at Jantar Mantar.
Police commissioner B S Bassi had hinted his displeasure over the use of word “thulla” by Kejriwal.
“Action will have to be taken against these policemen“.
Bassi, with a question to the reports station, said he was about to undertake an argument to debate numerous fears and glitches that surrounds daily functioning of one’s push. “It was a derogatory word, but a non-cognizable offence (police can’t act without a warrant or court order), so there is no FIR”, Mr. Bassi said this morning.
He also claimed that Kejriwal’s desire to control police will affect the performance and trigger political interference.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s use of the world “thulla” slang for policemen has incensed the Delhi Police and added bitterness to ties that have never been trouble-free.
