Delhi Govt To Hold First-Ever Yamuna Aarti At Kudesia Ghat Today
Honourable Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal visited the Kudesia Ghat which is near ISBT on the banks of the Yamuna River.
River activists said the initiative taken by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to start a daily Yamuna “aarti” to bring people back to the river had been widely appreciated in Mathura, Vrindavan and Agra. “Untreated water, including industrial and domestic sewage, will not be allowed to enter Yamuna”.
Several cultural programmes and activities will be performed at the ghat on the occasion.
At Gita Ghat near Kashmere Gate Inter State Bus Terminus, the river, lit up with hundreds of lamps, came alive with festivities on this nippy winter evening.
Actually, Kejriwal went to that place along with cabinet colleagues and a few important senior officials of Delhi government for visiting that place and he proclaimed this announcement and said that his government is taking very seriously and we will take various steps to clean this heavily polluted Yamuna River. He also made a public appeal to connect with the river and help in keeping it clean.
The Yamuna aarti is part of Delhi govt’s efforts towards cleaning the river and promoting tourism.
“There is a necessity to ensure that we join the hearts and minds of our city’s citizens with our Mother River Yamuna”. He emphasized the need for decentralized sewage treatment system to clean the Yamuna.
Activists are particularly angry with BJP MP Hema Malini who they said had done nothing for the Yamuna despite making promises before the May 2014 general election. Wastewater generated from an area will be treated locally… It flows a total of 1,376 km before merging with the Ganga at Allahabad – to form the holy Triveni. It is considered relatively clean until it reaches Delhi where a combination of municipal, household and industrial waste begin to choke and kill the river.
