Delhi police on Wednesday arrested a suspected Al Qaeda terrorist
Bhubaneswar, Dec.16: Cuttack Police on Wednesday said that apprehended Al Qaeda terrorist Abdur Rehman appeared to be a facilitator and an organiser for the activities of Al Qaeda in the Indian Sub Continent (AQIS).
According to police, it was found during interrogation that Asif had links with some youths who are all natives of Deepa Sarai mohalla in Sambhal district.
The Delhi police had been tracking him after its special cell lodged a case against several operatives in the country, the Hindustan Times reported.
Sharma informed that the Delhi Police has come to know about the link of Rehman with a Bengaluru-based youth Kafeel Ahmed, who succumbed to burn injuries in an abortive bid to ram an explosive-laden vehicle into the Glasgow International Airport in Scotland in 2007. “We had intelligence inputs about his presence and arrested him”, reports quoting Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arvind Deep said.
His brother was arrested in the 2001 USA consulate attack in Kolkata.
The Judicial Magistrate First Class court, Salepur in Cuttack district, allowed Delhi Police to take Rehman, who was arrested in Cuttack late on Tuesday, on two-day remand. “Asif went for Dini training while the other two (Rehan and Sarjin) were trained for arms”, he added.
“Md. Asif is of 41 years of age, he also got his money from hawala”. He had lately opened his own enterprise, filing sales tax returns for businessman, the source said.
In September 2014 Ayaman al-Zawarhi established AQIS and put out his plans on social media.
Educated at the famous Dar-ul-Uloom seminary at Deoband, from where he graduated in 1991, Haq became allegedly involved in jihadist circles following the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992, investigators say they had been told by his alleged lieutenants whose arrest was announced on Decembr 17. Qasim also ensured that the trip was financed by someone in his own locality here, police said.
