According to the report, Dellavedova will make $1.2 million in 2015-16, a significant raise over the $816,482 he made last season.
While the Cavaliers agreed to terms on a two-year, $4.3 million deal with score-first point guard Mo Williams on July 6, as reported by Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, Cleveland also decided to pad its backcourt depth with the defensive-minded Dellavedova. The backup point guard accepted the Cavaliers’ one-year qualifying offer of $1.2 million, according to a report from ESPN.com’s Dave McMenamin.
The Matthew Dellavedova experience will continue for at least one more season in Cleveland.
After averaging 4.8 points and 3.8 assists over 20.6 minutes per game during the regular season, Dellavedova stepped up big time during the playoffs. In the postseason, filling in for an injured Kyrie Irving through the National Basketball Association Finals, Dellavedova averaged 7.2 points and 2.7 assists.
Dellavedova will likely re-assume his position as backup point guard once Kyrie Irving full recovers from injury.
During the off season, the Cavs have re-signed much of the roster, including LeBron James, Kevin Love, Timofy Mozgov and Iman Shumpert. The Australian native became such a celebrity that a television network from Australia followed him through the Finals, which the Cavaliers lost to Golden State in six games. Dellavedova will be an unrestricted free agent next offseason. This gives him a chance to shine on the world stage and increase his value further. Dellavedova won Cavaliers fans over with his constant effort as he was always diving for loose balls and making gritty plays.
