DeMarcus Ware, Feared Broncos Pass Rusher, Announces NFL Retirement
DeMarcus Ware has retired from the National Football League after a 12-year career. But, that will not be happening. Without question, Ware’s leadership would have been an wonderful addition to Los Angeles’ defense, but the news of his retirement shouldn’t come as a surprise after 12 seasons.
In an impromptu announcement on Twitter, 34-year-old Broncos outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware declared he will be retiring and won’t return as a Denver Bronco.
Ware hangs up the boots having recorded 138.5 career sacks, good for eighth all time.
“DeMarcus Ware is not only a Hall of Fame player, but a Hall of Fame teammate as well”, Manning said, per the Broncos website. We’ve seen plenty of 6-foot-4, 250-pound pass rushers; Ware was different because of how efficiently he used those gifts.
Congratulatory messages and salutes were all over Twitter on Monday after longtime National Football League defensive standout DeMarcus Ware announced his retirement. The Broncos had interest in bringing him back.
We wish Ware well in his retirement. Ware finished his time in Dallas as the franchise’s all-time leader in sacks (117) and will promptly be inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor. Von Miller attributes much of his success to Ware’s mentorship and once Ware arrived in Denver, Miller became a more dominant player on a far more consistent basis. “I was full speed before, 100 percent”. Ware was able to contribute to the Broncos Super Bowl victory in 2015, recording two sacks in the game. He missed five games in 2015 with a back injury that first flared up in Dallas, and six games last season with a broken forearm and more back troubles. After being drafted in 2005, Ware started and played in 134 consecutive games.
