Demi Lovato endorses Hillary Clinton for president at Iowa rally
Jake Sullivan, a foreign policy adviser to Clinton who also served with her when she was secretary of state, depicted as risky Sanders’ proposal to normalize relations with Iran, made during the most recent debate for Democratic presidential candidates.
Just two days ago, Sanders walked back his comment that groups Planned Parenthood and the the LGBT right group the Human Rights Campaign are part of the “establishment” after they protested him labeling them as such. But many say their support for the Vermont senator in the Democratic presidential race is also driven by real hope in his promise of a political revolution and a belief that his ideas are bold enough to bring economic security to the middle class.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are shadowing each other across eastern Iowa, eager to carve out any advantage in a race that’s deadlocked with just over a week until the state’s lead-off caucuses.
“Sanders is the most electable Democrat as measured by net electability, the percentage who support a candidate minus the percentage who would not vote for that candidate under any circumstances”.
Clinton and her surrogates, including daughter Chelsea, have criticized Sander’s single-payer health care plan, saying it would “dismantle” the Affordable Care Act signed into law by President Barack Obama.
Till recently Clinton has been a frontrunner for a Democratic nomination.
Unlike her speech in Iowa – where Sanders led in a CNN/ORC poll released this week, ahead of the February 1 caucuses – Clinton didn’t name Sanders at the Rochester event Friday.
Sanders’ rise has jolted Clinton, leading her to launch a flurry of criticism against the Vermont senator, whom she views as unelectable and a proponent of unrealistic policies.
What the latest New Hampshire poll, taken now near the end of the contest in N.H., shows, is that the campaign in New Hampshire, as it is nearing its end, is increasingly displaying a strong edge over Clinton that Sanders has on this most crucial of all ratios, which is propelling him toward a substantial margin of victory in this, the first, primary state.
Speaking to 700 people packed into the basement of a Masonic lodge, Sanders said the Clinton campaign was getting “nervous” and lashing out.
“My esteemed opponent, Senator Sanders, wants to start all over again”, Clinton said.
“First gentleman. First dude”, she said as the crowd roared with laughter. ” … But I am an old-fashioned guy who believes in democracy being one person and one vote”. “It’s the people who know I will stand in their way and stop them”, she said. Allies say she has yet to crystallize her message and has lacked a consistent and effective line of attack against Sanders. She specifically has challenged his call for free tuition at public colleges and universities and for a taxpayer-financed health care system. Politico reported, according to sources in the meetings, Clinton tried to calm any jitters among the financial firm’s leaders by telling them she was not going to crusade against past wrongs by Wall Street financiers. It is a clear indication that Sanders solidified his base in the state by campaigning there for a month.
“Bernie’s got the gumption and the persistence to win and be a good president”, said Dick Champagne, 74, an independent New Hampshire voter who is backing Sanders and volunteering for his campaign after first favoring Trump.
Bernie Sanders is the most unproblematic old white man we’ve ever heard of.
“None of us say it’s ideal, but I’d hate for it to go backward”, said Jacque Willits, 66, a retired teacher who lives in Camanche, outside Clinton.
