Democratic Party activist files complaint against Florida Congressman Grayson
Marco Rubio is giving up to run for president, according to Orlando attorney John Morgan, a close friend of Grayson’s and a major Democratic Party donor. The only serious candidate announced so far on the Democratic side is Rep. Patrick Murphy, a milquetoast moderate who is a former registered Republican – the kind of guy Florida Democrats have a habit of nominating for ultimately failing statewide races. His profane tirades were one thing, but his recently uncovered ethical lapses regarding a hedge fund in the Cayman Islands was simply the last straw.
Legal troubles aside, however, the icing on the cake here is that Grayson’s also very much despised by his own party.
The Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida, openly critical of Murphy, has been hoping Grayson will join the race.
It accuses Grayson of failing to properly disclose details of three hedge funds, including their investors and his income from them. Four business and law experts interviewed by POLITICO Florida said that explanation made no sense, and that Grayson should have a fiduciary duty over the funds. “This is not simply a technical violation, but rather is a violation that implicates fundamental goals of the ethics rules – to ensure that Members fulfill the public trust inherent in the office by prohibiting Members from profiting by virtue of their office and being improperly influenced”, the organization said in its letter.
His group, which calls itself “non-partisan”, has filed complaints with the Federal Election Commission alleging Democratic firms and local parties are illegally sharing voter data, and filed a separate F.E.C. complaint against ex- secretary of state Hillary Clinton after her presidential campaign got a massive email list from her political action committee. Harry Reid of Nevada, the Senate Democratic leader.
“I am so honored for the support I’ve received in this campaign”, Murphy said in a statement to the Herald.
