Democrats Debate In New Hampshire
For the Democrats, eventual President Bill Clinton finished fourth in 1992 to Iowa Sen. National Nurses United for Patient Protection brought in $2.3 million in 2015, Politico reported, and it gave significant funds to two other unlimited spending groups supporting Sanders.
Fireworks flying in their first one-on-one debate, Hillary Clinton accused Bernie Sanders on Thursday of subjecting her to an “artful smear” while Sanders suggested the former secretary of state was a captive of the political establishment.
Clinton said Thursday in the New Hampshire debate that she is “not making promises that I can not keep”. Sanders has a substantial lead over Clinton in the New Hampshire polls. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt, speaks in Hanover, N.H. There was a time when Democrats fretted about Hillary Clintons presidential campaign becoming a coronation, leaving her without the tests of a primary season to prepare for a general election matchup against the Republican nominee.
Clinton calls that a “low blow”, and presses her counter-argument that she’s the candidate with the ability to actually implement progressive changes. The debate at the University of New Hampshire came together at the last minute as a part of the agreement for the candidates to hold four additional debates over the next few months. The latest polls show Sanders with a strong lead over Clinton among New Hampshire primary voters, according to Real Clear Politics, in some cases by more than 30 percentage points. The term is now at the center of the battle between Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
In a tussle over their very political identities, the two candidates are engaged in an ongoing argument over who is more committed to – and capable of – carrying out a liberal agenda on health care, income inequality, worker rights and more.
With the New Hampshire primary less than a week away – and with Sanders’ strong showing in Iowa still fresh – the debate could be the first time the candidates have gone on a sustained attack against one another.
Clinton reiterated that she opposed several of Sanders’ plans, including his plan to replace the Affordable Care Act and his plan to make colleges tuition-free.
“I know where I stand, I know who stands with me, I know what I’ve done”, Clinton said.
“That’s what they offered”, Clinton said when asked why she took the money. Clinton’s campaign said 95 percent of its donations in January were in amounts of $100 or less.
“It’s just not accurate to say ‘it’s my way or the highway, ‘ I know some people portray me like that”, he said.
