Democrats say Trump, GOP are intimidating voters in 4 states
Hillary Clinton vowed Sunday that she would not be “knocked off course” in the election’s final days, as she sought to push past a new Federal Bureau of Investigation email inquiry in a sexting probe that delivered a late jolt to her race against Republican Donald Trump.
Clinton, who was to campaign Monday across OH, vowed over the weekend that she would not be “knocked off course” in the election’s final days by the discovery of new emails in an unrelated sexting investigation.
The poll purports to show that Trump trails Clinton nationally by just one, slim percentage point. That announcement came shortly after Republican Donald Trump’s campaign said it would be advertising there.
“It is unlikely that there will be a dramatic shift in the polls before Election Day”, said Morning Consult cofounder and Chief Research Officer Kyle Dropp. One potential factor being discussed is the “shy Trump voter” phenomenon.
Donald Trump has to win Florida, North Carolina and Ohio. Bush’s vote totals nearly certainly dropped because of this well-timed little bombshell.
A law enforcement official said Sunday that FBI investigators in the Weiner sexting probe knew for weeks about the existence of newly discovered emails that might be relevant to the Clinton email investigation. Those are votes “in the bank” for some candidate, and Clinton’s efforts are aimed at packing them away for her. Yet, he said, Trump voters favor the NY businessman who has never held political office “because we judge the leadership of our country to have failed”.
Her campaign says Clinton is returning to Colorado’s airwaves with a six-figure buy.
“To have him here fighting for every Michigan vote, to talk about issues that Michiganders care about – the economy, fair trade, Obamacare – that’s the type of attention we deserve”, said Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel.
The Justice Department also plans to send hundreds of trained personnel to states to help deter voter intimidation.
If the race is too close to call in one or more states and the Electoral College outcome is in doubt, the victor may not be determined until the official state results are certified. When a state certifies its official result, that determines the slate of Electoral College electors who meet December 19.
Among them, North Carolina has received as much attention from both campaigns as any – traditional battlegrounds Florida and OH included. Later in the afternoon, Trump is expected to hold a rally in Warren, a suburb of Detroit.
The numbers on Monday showed a near identical spread between Clinton and Trump when Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party nominee Jill Stein were factored in, with Clinton leading by 2.8 points.
The poll finds that Clinton has secured the support of 90 percent of likely Democratic voters, and also has the backing of 15 percent of more moderate Republicans. The Democratic presidential nominee and her allies in a dozen battleground states have more than 4,800 people knocking on doors, making phone calls and otherwise working to support her candidacy. On Tuesday, he will travel to Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and to North Carolina on Thursday.
On Oct. 27, the camp rolled out perhaps its biggest gun in Michelle Obama. Clinton’s efforts in OH are part of a strategy to provide her several paths to an electoral college victory – the simplest of which would be to win Florida.
Kaine is reiterating that the FBI should release more details on their investigation.
Thanks to the state’s rules, Nevada offers a rare window into campaigns’ ground games in the final days of the election. New reports from the weekend found that more than 20 million voters had already cast ballots.
“Her election would mire our government and our country in a constitutional crisis that we can not afford”, Trump declared in Grand Rapids, pointing to the FBI’s renewed examination of Clinton’s email practices as evidence the former secretary of state might face a criminal trial as president.
Then, of course, there’s money – the mother’s milk of politics.
The Machado appearance was in line with Clinton’s broader closing argument against Trump. That’s not how the Trump campaign is organized, she said. Her deal had been suspended in July when she became interim head of the Democratic National Committee. He has donated $1 million to a pro-Trump super PAC and gave $250,000 to Trump’s campaign and Republican partners. That hasn’t happened – yet.
The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
