Democrats Want Trump’s Helsinki Interpreter To Testify. Can She?
The shifting narrative underscores the degree to which Mr. Trump regularly picks and chooses intelligence to suit his political purposes.
The president’s response, as it was initially understood by the media, including CBS News, seemed to contradict Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats’ statement released shortly after the president’s summit in Helsinki, which said the intelligence community has “been clear in our assessments of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and their ongoing, pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy”.
Putin during Monday’s controversial press conference said the conflict in Syria could present a starting point for bilateral agreements.
On Wednesday, Sarah Sanders wouldn’t say that the Trump administration was opposed to the idea of U.S. citizens and officials, including former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, being interrogated by Russian officials.
“Thank you very much”.
Trump said that he considered Russian President Vladimir Putin to be personally accountable for Moscow’s meddling in the 2016 US elections.
Hours after President Donald Trump seemingly claimed Russian Federation was no longer targeting the US, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders sought to clarify that statement.
Republicans were equally dumbfounded as Democrats were over Trump’s siding with Russian Federation over his own intelligence officials after the summit.
When asked whether there was a recording of the Trump-Putin meeting, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said “I’m not aware of one”, and referred further questions to the State Department.
“If we’re in the majority, we’ll probably be more effective and you’d see a lot stronger things protecting American security than you will with this majority, which seems so afraid of President Trump”.
Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., said it’s what happens “when you wage war on objective reality for almost two solid years, calling real things fake and fake things real”. It’s just too bad he couldn’t have said all of this when Putin was standing next to him. Robert Menendez, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told MSNBC.
PRESIDENT Donald Trump has again contradicted U.S. intelligence agencies, saying that Russian Federation was not still targeting the United States, and accusing his critics of being deranged. So once again we had the appearance of friction between the president and the intelligence community.
How did Trump answer that question?
Ms Sanders said Mr Trump meant he did not want to answer questions.
“I think by stating the fact that Russian Federation interfered with our election, that’s a pretty bold call-out of another world leader”, Sanders said. Trump said. “Let me ask you this: What about the fact they came charging – that they came charging with clubs in their hands, swinging clubs? I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be”.
So Monday’s comment, according to the President’s claims on Tuesday, should have been, “I don’t see any reason why it would NOT be”. “Sort of a double negative”.
Trump, she said, thinks that the United States has to focus on securing its election integrity and election systems.
In the clip, Melania first appears eager to shake Putin’s hand, smiling at him, making eye contact, and likely saying something polite.
