Depay: Man United have to finish better
Rooney began the game like a man with a point to prove, but, after a bright opening 20 minutes, his performance fizzled out – much like that of United’s as a whole, barring a late flurry of chances that saw Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling go close to snatching a victor.
Manchester United winger Memphis Depay says he was frustrated by the club’s finishing as they were held to a 0-0 draw against Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday. “It is not so easy in the Premier League”.
“I could have finished a couple of chances but I didn’t and I have to work on that”, he said. “It takes a while to adapt as any player coming in from another country will tell you”.
The pressure is on Van Gaal to push his side onto bigger and better things this year after a transitional season in 2014/15 which ended with a fourth-placed finish.
He added: “I played against Depay a few times in Holland, and I happened to bump into him on vacation in Miami during the summer, just by chance”. He’s a nice guy, still very young with a lot of potential but he’s well developed in his career for his age.
Bafetimbi Gomis’ third goal of the season – and his eighth in nine games – gave Swansea the lead on the stroke of half-time but veteran striker Jermain Defoe took some of the pressure off Dick Advocaat’s Black Cats with a 62nd-minute equaliser after Andre Ayew had hit the post for the visitors.
His two goals against the Belgians had the United fans drooling.
“It’s his team now, his players, and if the new signings settle quickly, I think it’s possible”. The former England worldwide feels that there was nothing fantastic about the performance since winning games at home against teams like Newcastle United is something normal which is not happening at the moment.
