Deputy comforts crying baby after traffic accident in Alabama
A photo of an Alabama deputy cradling a young baby after a multivehicle crash is drawing plenty of praise for the officer on social media.
Troopers said the accident involved an ambulance, a tractor-trailer and three other vehicles.
When Sheriff’s Deputy Ric Lindley arrived at the scene of the wreck in Leeds, Alabama, on Tuesday he checked to see if there were any victims.
According to AL.com, Deputy Ric Lindley really loves kids, and that came into play when he responded to a crash on an interstate in Birmingham Tuesday morning. Lindley, a father and grandfather, walked over to check on both.
“The lady was scared and holding her baby”, Sgt. Jack Self said. And we try to treat people out here just like we would want someone to treat our children, or our spouses, or our parents’. Lindley asked if she was OK, and then asked if he could hold her baby. “I held her for a good while, at least an hour and a half, ” he said. “She had a very sweet little personality”.
Lindley tells AL.com he’s puzzled by the attention the photo has received. “I wanted to give her mother time to regain her composure”, Lindley said.
As one Facebook comment said, “A dad in a uniform.is still a dad”. “I love kids.” He has served as a sheriff’s deputy for 10 years, and is a retired U.S. Army medical officer.
