Derby County’s travelling support is up there with the best, says Clement
“It was great for Bradley Johnson and Darren Bent to get their first goals of the season and now we have to build on this result”.
“On Saturday lunchtime, I know we’ll play better than that”.
Dons were, however, left to lament a wasteful afternoon in front of goal – only four of their 26 efforts hit the target – as Bent won it in the 89th minute and Tom Ince added a stoppage-time third.
“It has been nice in the last two away games at Reading and at Preston that they have seen the team win both matches, and that is what we are going to be aiming for today”.
Derby had certainly looked lumpen in comparison to a home side who, seemingly unperturbed by a run of five consecutive defeats – most recently a 6-0 Capital One Cup loss to Southampton on Wednesday – were slick and mobile from the beginning. “That’s hard to take physically and mentally so we did have that slight extra recovery time”.
It is hoped Tom Ince will also return to the squad after the winger missed Monday night’s goalless home draw with Burnley with a knee knock sustained in training last weekend.
“We’ve still got a lot to improve on”, said Clement, “but that’s a good thing – because if you are picking up positive results and you’re not playing that well then I think then we’ve got a really positive future”.
But Karl Robinson’s side were rewarded for their attacking play with a deserved equaliser courtesy of Norwich loanee Murphy.
But they eventually ran out of steam, allowing substitute Bent to tap in an Andreas Weimann cross and Ince to finish things off in injury time.
The Rams now sit in 12th place in the Sky Bet Championship, having amassed 11 points from eight league games so far this season.
“They players have got to pick themselves up and respond in the right way and I know they will”.
“Our objective is simple, we want to go there and win”.
“I really do think we’ve been harshly done by”.
