Derek Carr injury: 5 Raiders who must step up
The Oakland Raiders kept on winning, though they lost rising-star quarterback Derek Carr in the process. As Derek Carr stood on the sidelines awaiting a cart to take him for an x-ray that would confirm the worst, a season-ending broken fibula, devastation rippled from Del Rio, past Oakland and enveloped the entire National Football League zeitgeist.
Carr will undergo surgery and is to be sidelined indefinitely, according to Del Rio. “Sometimes it’s good to have young guys out in positions because they don’t know any better but to fly around, find the ball and just listen to the guys that know what’s going on”. Without Carr, the Raiders are sure to lose some of their offensive firepower and so they will need Janikowski to put points on the board every chance he gets. Even with a win, Oakland was distraught, as they realize that a deep playoff push is going to be much more hard without their golden boy at the helm. He also said it was too early to say how long he would be out since everyone heals differently. Hopefully Kansas City loses tomorrow so we get a little more rest.
Why watch: Barely, but the Colts still remain in playoff contention. “But to not be in it this year is definitely disappointing, and it hurts”. DeAndre Washington dominated the ground game with 12 carries for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. A convincing MVP argument can be made on Carr’s behalf. Luck completed passes to five different receivers on the drive, and ended the drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Robert Turbin. “Keep my regimen the same, stay focused, stay ready and try to play to the best of my ability”.
For his career, he has 1,818 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
“It’s obviously a blow”, coach Jack Del Rio said. Because of more squandered opportunities than we have time to rehash, their playoff hopes dangle by a thread. Six plays later, Derek Carr his Jalen Richard with a 4-yard touchdown, giving Oakland a 19-7 lead at halftime. That all ended with a play the Raiders won’t soon forget.
Indianapolis quickly moved to the Raiders’ 29-yard line, but on second-and-10, Nelson cut in front of Hilton in the right front corner of the end zone and intercepted Luck’s pass.
“We’ve seen our running backs and tight ends gain explosive yards”. The Colts fell behind 33-7 and were down 33-14 in the fourth quarter when Carr was injured, sucking the oxygen from the stadium and sending the stunned Raiders into the fetal position.
The Colts (7-7) have surrendered just two touchdowns over the past three weeks and given up an average of 12.7 points per game.
The Colts trailed 13-7, but were driving near the end of the second quarter. Before going out with his injury, Carr tossed for 228 yards and three TDs.
