Derek Carr injury turns Raiders into unrealistic Super Bowl bet
The defending Super Bowl champions will want to finish a disappointing 2016 season with a win, and McGloin will have to beat them on their own field.
Football brings players and fans plenty of joy, but sounds like Carr’s will prevent us from forgetting the flip side that is the pain. The 25-year-old quarterback was having such a great season, leading the Raiders to their first playoff appearance in 14 years.
Carr has been nothing short of spectacular this season, throwing for 3,933 yards with 28 touchdowns and six interceptions. If you live in Alaska or Hawaii, no worries, you get the Broncos game too. Mack and Irvin have combined for 18 of the Raiders’ 25 sacks; no other players on their roster have more than 2.5 sacks.
The two will need to be at their best against Denver’s receiving duo of Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders Sunday.
Sunday will be an early preview of the expected summer battle between Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch for the Broncos starting quarterback job.
However, they can not underestimate the catch radius, ability and talent of Thomas and Sanders.
But he got his chance last Saturday in the win over Indianapolis and rushed for 99 yards on 12 carries and had a pair of 22-yard touchdown runs.
This will be a very good test for Smith and Amerson as the Silver and Black hurdle along towards the postseason. It will be incumbent upon the offensive line and backs to do more, the special teams to do more. But at the same time, there was no intent to injure Derek so there’s no need to say those harsh things. But there’s no question he has the tools to do so.
Cooper, Richard, Crabtree and Holmes have yet to miss a game all season, which could help McGloin as he looks for his first win as a starter since his rookie season in 2013.
That hasn’t happened in Denver since 2010, when John Elway was still in the vehicle business, Tim Tebow hadn’t traded the pigskins for leather and Von Miller was back at Texas A&M only dreaming of fame and fortune. “People get hurt all the time”. “It’s different playing a game for nothing, really”.
They will just have to do it with McGloin under centre instead of Carr. Even with DeMarcus Ware sidelined, the Broncos will try to generate a pass rush that makes McGloin uncomfortable.
