Derek Carr, Raiders ’emotional’ after win over Ravens

Flacco relied heavily on the 36-year-old Smith, who had 10 catches for 150 yards but couldn’t get a second foot down in the end zone on an off-target pass from Flacco before Tucker’s go-ahead field goal with 2:10 to go.

The perplexing aspect of the two losses is that they featured alternatingly poor performances by the offense and defense.

That said, the Raiders will not be a team that lays down and gives up – they have a number of skilled players and will compete.

Defensive end Justin Tuck was pleased with the win but was also trying to keep it in perspective. In his final season at Alabama, Cooper set school single-season records with 124 receptions for 1,727 yards and 16 touchdown catches. “He made some unbelievable catches in clutch situations, but the unselfishness, the way he blocked on the perimeter, was really terrific on his part”. We all know that the Ravens are a physical team. Flacco was definitely better in the second game against the Oakland Raiders than he was versus the Denver Broncos in the season opener, and that improvement should continue here.

Outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil started in place of Suggs but was relatively quiet for much of the game. And only the Bengals, Bears, and Cowboys are in the top ten for both offense and defense at sixth on defense and seventh on offense. Guys had to step up. “We have to take it one week at a time”. The weather was so hot at O.co Coliseum – with the temperature approaching 95 degrees as the afternoon progressed – that some players needed IV treatments throughout the game to replenish their bodily fluids.

Murray’s 4.3 yards per carry was welcome against a stout front that Baltimore owns, a unit well-respected for their defense since the turn of the century. Oakland had a total of 97 yards rushing. From there, the Ravens slowly worked their way toward the tying score, taking what Oakland gave them.

But Carr went 7 for 9 for 65 yards on the winning drive.
