Derek Fisher Revises Expectations for New York Knicks’ Season
No real predictions at all, actually. The 7-3 big man from Latvia said he expects to practice in full Friday. “Having a guy with that type of minsdet protecting the basket for you, we hope to be a good thing”. “People might not believe that, but we’re definitely competing for that”.
Fisher hypothesized that there might have been a wet spot on the floor, causing the injury but Porzingis shot that down immediately, saying “no” “just something happened, not a big deal”. “It gives us a chance to kind of have a fresh start, get our identity”. “Previous year was so much going on around training camp”.
Despite last season’s struggles, the Knicks have a better squad heading to the 2015-16 season and chemistry will not be a major issue since Anthony has been working out with his teammates since August.
“Just running by myself,” he said. However, on Monday, the 31-year-old said he’s optimistic about the season, intimating that he and Jackson are on the same page and adding that he’s honored to be the centerpiece of Jackson’s rebuilding attempt.
Fisher also had to install and teach the triangle offense to players such as Anthony and J.R. Smith, who had never played the system before.
The Knicks head into the season with a revamped lineup featuring newcomers Robin Lopez, Arron Afflalo, Derrick Williams, Kevin Seraphin and Kyle O’Quinn, along with draft picks Kristaps Porzingis and Jerian Grant.
With that in mind, Thursday’s sight of New York’s prized rookie sitting on the sideline with ice strapped to his knee was a discouraging development in just the third day of training camp. “But it’s fine. I practiced limited and then they pulled me off. (Friday) I’ll be going 100 percent”. “I think we have a good team and we can surprise people”.
In addition, Anthony denied the rumors of his displeasure towards the team’s drafting of Porzingis.
A popular theory is that if the Knicks don’t show vast improvement and Anthony doesn’t get more help in the form of other stars he might ultimately sour on the team and seek a trade. “I’m a little heavier”, Porzingis said.
“My window is open”.
“I think that Phil is correct in the sense that past year we did try to predict … how a team would do over the course of a long National Basketball Association season and it’s really impossible to do that”, he said.
There are very few or no possibilities that the Knicks would mind such an offer by the Cavs, as they would acquire a young aggressive power forward in place of their ageing champ, Carmelo.
