Deron Williams Expected to Be Waived by Mavericks to Join Cavaliers
The Dallas Mavericks as expected have waived veteran guard Deron Williams, but what is next for the once prominent National Basketball Association star point guard?
The 32-year-old Williams has played the past two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks.
LeBron James wanted a playmaker to help the Cleveland Cavaliers. Williams was now averaging 13.1 points and 6.8 assist per game for the Mavericks, but he has been limited to 40 games so far this season due to injuries.
With the February trade deadline rapidly approaching, the rumor mill has been working overtime around the National Basketball Association.
For the first time this season, assuming he is signed, Williams will be someone who will ease the burden off of both Irving and James.
Deron Williams has been waived by the Dallas Mavericks and once he passes waivers will become a free agent. The former All-Star was a target by the champs when they began searching for a playmaker a few weeks ago.
While Griffin declined to comment about Williams, Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue admitted that he “always liked D-Will” and adding that an All-star player always means additional great talent for the team.
In other news, ESPN has reported that the Lakers are working on a buyout with veteran guard Jose Calderon.
Waived by the Mavericks Thursday, Williams carries career averages of 16.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from 3-point range. Barea sits the next three games as he recovers from his calf injury. As of Saturday evening Bogut had not been bought out and waived by the 76ers.
One explanation could be that the Dallas Mavericks are just a very respectful organization. The Williams buyout came later, but now it appears the team has a more clear vision of how they will proceed towards a possible playoff appearance.

The Houston Rockets could make a play for Bogut, same with the Golden State Warriors.
