Derrick Henry, Deshaun Watson and Christian McCaffrey are Heisman finalists
Other finalist include Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey.
A quarterback has won the Heisman in each of the last five seasons.
“It is a very special honor for me to be selected as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy”, Henry said.
Henry led the FBS with 1,986 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns this season, helping the Crimson Tide win the SEC championship and land a berth in the College Football Playoff.
We now know who will be heading to New York City for the Heisman Trophy ceremony as the three finalists were announced on Monday. Those players include running back Mark Ingram, running back Trent Richardson, quarterback AJ McCarron and wide receiver Amari Cooper.
Watson threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 131 yards and two scores to set ACC Championship records for total yards and touchdowns. His 3,496 all-purpose yards are 1,000 more than anyone else has this season. 319 carries, 1,847 yards, 5.8 yards per carry, eight rushing touchdowns, 41 receptions, 540 yards, four receiving touchdowns, 1,109 return yards, one kickoff return touchdown.
For the season, Watson has 3512 passing yards with 30 passing touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Clemson QB Deshaun Watson, Florida State RB Dalvin Cook and Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield are also strong favorites to make it to NY for Heisman proceedings.
