Derrick Rose is hurt…again
Rose (orbital) underwent successful surgery Wednesday, but his timetable remains unclear, Nick Friedell of ESPN Chicago reports.
According to Dr. Nicholas Volpe of Northwestern Medicine, who’s not involved in the surgery, there are six eye muscles that are important to basketball players. Rose needs a procedure to fix the injury, and it’s unknown when he’ll be able to return to the court.
The Bulls open their regular season against the Cavaliers on October 27.
Rose spoke publicly for the first time since his ex-girlfriend filed a civil suit in Los Angeles alleging he and two friends sexually assaulted her. General manager Gar Forman said the non-criminal legal situation won’t cause Rose to miss camp and offered support, calling Rose “part of our family.”
Since 2011, he has dealt with everything from a sprained toe to a torn ACL. Rose’s filing also says the woman “became upset a few weeks or months later because she felt she should be reimbursed for one of the sex toys she purchased and used during the day and night in question”. I don’t know if the surgery has improved from back when he had it, but he was very sensitive to light in the beginning of the recovery.
Rose was injured on the first play of Tuesday’s practice when he took an inadvertent elbow to the face from a teammate. His lawyers responded that Jane Doe “consented to the actions she now claims were non-consensual”, and that “none of the defendants… was aware that Plaintiff objected to any of the acts”. Just knowing that my day will be coming up soon, and it’s not for me. She also allegedly buzzed Rose and his friends up to her home.
He wasn’t in a dour mood by any stretch, but Hoiberg sounds fully indoctrinated into dealing with life without Rose-perhaps a bit too early for his liking. “I just feel like when you’re that focused, people try to take you down”. The case has been transferred to U.S. District Court, and a scheduling conference is set for November 9.
