DeSean Jackson Expected to Join Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole is reporting that Jackson, who is 30 years old, is expected to land a deal that averages somewhere around – or over – $11 million a year.
Terms: Financial terms are still being negotiated between the Bucs and Rodgers, but the deal will be for two years, ESPN has learned. Adding Jackson will give Jameis Winston a dynamic deep threat who can add an extra dimension to his team’s offense. Of the wide receivers who had at least 60 targets in 2016, Jackson ranked third in yards per target, behind only Julio Jones and Adam Thielen. His 1,321 receiving yards were fourth-most in the league previous year to go along with 12 touchdowns.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are planning “to make a strong push” for Jackson. His former team, Philadelphia, could lure him back though. Presumably, the opposing team’s best cornerbacks will cover Evans and allow Jackson to match up with the lower level players. And that’s exactly what they did, as they’re expected to sign ex-Washington (and Philadelphia) wideout DeSean Jackson.
The Cal product landed in Washington and mostly thrived during a three-year stint with the Eagles’ NFC East rivals. In 2014 and 2016, Jackson registered more than 1,000 yards each year.
That stretch started in Week Five in Carolina, when Rodgers recorded his first career 100-yard game in his very first start as a Buccaneer.
But with several of their own unrestricted free agents slated to hit the open market on Thursday, Dallas may have no other choice than to look to free agency to fill some of those voids. Bryant struggled with injuries this past season, but turned it back on in the playoffs when he had nine receptions for 132 yards and two scores.
Just how far are the Eagles willing to go to reunite with receiver DeSean Jackson?
A three-time Pro Bowl selection (2009, 2010, 2013) and a 2009 second-team Associated Press All-Pro selection (kick returner), Jackson’s 8,819 receiving yards are the fifth-most since he entered the league in 2008 (Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson). I don’t know why I’m on practice squad, I just need a chance to play.’ Every time I got my chance to play, I always did [well].
