Desert under flash flood watch Monday, Tuesday
“The heavy precipitation threat will remain over the region through Tuesday afternoon”.
More than an inch of rain is expected in the deserts and more than two inches is expected in the mountains Monday and Tuesday.
The flash flood watch was issued ahead of a tropical depression that entered the state from the south on Monday.
Tropical Storm Malia is 1,035 miles west northwest of Kailua-Kona.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms likely to drench parts of San Diego County will bring increased humidity and heighten the risk for risky flash flooding in some areas.
“The storm is now moving northeast across Sonora Mexico and the center of whatever circulation will be left is due to pass over southeast Arizona Monday afternoon”, the National Weather Service’s Phoenix office said in their forecast discussion. “Residents and motorists living on traveling in flood prone areas, or in areas prone to water ponding, should concern themselves with this flood potential”.
The system remains somewhat disorganized, but the National Weather Service says environmental conditions will continue to support development over the next few days as it moves slowly northwest.
This weekend the county also experienced record high temperatures. “If you are in the watch area, you should watch the weather and be prepared to take immediate action should heavy rain and flooding occur”.
